A day in a local village

The proverb goes "it takes a village to raise a child". This lovely Naushahro Feroze village, named after the Siyal family, is home to aproximately 400 families. Ms. Saima Siyal kindly showed me the whole village, where I was received with so much warmness and excitement!

It was also such a rich opportunity to experience traditional ways of living in rural areas of the country, such as the costume of utilizing henna branches to cook food on houses' courtyards.

Alll around the village, green fields of henna and cotton are cultivated by the local families. The area is one of the main producers of henna in the country, which is exported worldwide.

Bufallo, goat and chicken farming are also important activities carried by the local families. Buffalo milk is deemed sweeter and richer than cow milk, and traditionally used as a basis for creams and curds.

This amazing day, spent around such welcoming families, certainly helped me understand a little better the local culture, especially caregiving traditions and costumes. It was an extremely enriching experience, which will inform our research approach, optimizing its adequacy. I am so grateful for that experience!
