Agriculture, monsoon season and climate change

An agriculture hub, the district is know for its production of cotton, wheat and sugar cane, as well as abundant fruit crops, mainly mangoes, guavas , oranges and bananas. Monsoon season, which lasts from June to August, is marked by heavy and constant rains, though this year the area was severely hit with abnormal amounts of rain, flooding streets and causing disruptions in everyday life. Many villages have blocked electricity to avoid accidents with exposed wires in the floods. According to the Global Climate Risk Index 2021, Pakistan is among the 10 countries most affected by extreme weather events due to climate change and faulty urban infrastructure, from 2000 to 2019.
